The Sky's The Limit - Literally!

For many Delawareans living with a physical disability, wether it be from an accident, illness, or disease (such as multiple sclerosis), participating in an outdoor adventure seems out of reach. Because they use a walker, lean on crutches, or sit in a wheelchair, they believe that they are destined to live out their lives as spectators. This does not need to be the case! The list of adapted recreation opportunities grows every year. Just in the tri-state area alone, there are a dozen different organizations who focus on providing fun sporting activities to people of all ability levels. With the use of motorized lifts, specially adapted seats, sit-down sleds and skiis, and many other accomodations, they are making it possible for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors. Do you dream of going sky diving, hot air ballooning, or scuba diving? Well, you can! These, and many other opportunities are available if you know where to look. See below for a partial list of resources in your area. Transportation and financial assistance are also available for many adapted activities. If you have gone an adapted recreational adventure, please share your experiences by posting them on this blog.
